Extras in Disney's Secretariat

As mentioned in my earlier post, I heard about a casting call today from 3pm - 8pm ET at Churchill Downs for the 2010 release of Walt Disney's feature Secretariat starring Diane Lane. The announcement stated all ages and all types are wanted for the movie. The only thing we were required to bring was a picture of ourself. So, my wife and I decided we would take our whole family down to the track and see if we might be extras in the picture.

We arrived at Gate 10 around 5:30pm. The parking lot actually looked fairly empty. However, when we got out of our vehicle and walked up to the actual gate, the line was fairly long. Luckily, the weather was in the lower 80s with a nice breeze. It wasn't like standing Peter Pan's queue at WDW. The line did move fairly quick, but, did take us about two hours to finally get inside. Once inside, we were taken on an elevator up to the 4th floor where we were each given an application to fill out.

While we were filling in the application, a female staffer gave a short spiel on what they were looking for in individuals for the movie. In a nutshell, they said that everyone that showed up would be cast as extras if they showed up in a couple weeks on the filming dates and to wear clothes representative of the 1970s. It was pretty interesting, but, having four kids, maybe we should have thought this one out a little better. Anyway, this whole process for our family took maybe 30 minutes. And that was that. We turned in our forms in designated stacks by age and sex and then we were out of there.

It was now about 7:45pm and the line was almost as long as when we first arrived. There was definitely one lesson we learned from this experience...leave your kids with the grandparents while you take their pictures with you and fill out the forms for them. Oh well, now I'm looking forward to possibly seeing Diane Lane and maybe even appearing in Secretariat.
